Skin Comfort

Jan 09, 2022

I’ve always felt and been revered by my peers to be someone that was comfortable in his own skin. I’ve also said this about others I know namely some children that I observed had a unique level of confidence and comfort in being themselves. I find this both fascinating as well as vital in the process of successfully interfacing with the world.

Fascinating to think about the idea of skin and how we all carry our own outer layers which we either use as intended in an adaptive nature or use as a protective barrier to ward of negative outside forces. Another fascinating observation is what I call the Chameleon Coat which refers to our ability either blend ourselves into another group if people or a larger scale, society. This can be used as a means if acceptance or so not to be noticed. But when I think of the degree of skin comfort one has, I’m referring to the level they have reached of knowing where they are going and why, combined with knowing who they are.

There’s a great quote I use often that says « It’s  WHO you are, that determines how well what you DO works » In phase placing one’s growth in developing a strong Interface Response System, it’s in the first stage where we create a perception of the event or happening that carries weight in wether we respond with a knee jerk reaction or take the time to rationalize things and make a more logical decision on how best to respond. One who is comfortable in their skin and is clear on where their headed and determining what’s in support of where their going and what’s not is well equipped to gain control of their response system.

Someone that is not comfortable in their skin and tries to blend into disappearance or acceptance is prone to being heavily influenced by their programmed stress response system. So to those following my podcast or doing any self discovery and personal growth, I see one of they biggest wins being developing not a thick skin but a comfortable one.
