In Robert Greene’s book, the Laws of Human Nature, he discusses the various types of Empathy that exist and we can practice with great benefits. One, Analytical Empathy refers to the concept of learning to observe and describe people, detached from giving them value and power over you. To basically understand them and make sense of why they are the way they are. This helps you “Get” them as well as detach them and the potential intentions you may feel they have towards you.

In this quote, Abraham Lincoln points out the value in becoming conscious that you are being impacted by someone in a negative way and making the decision to practice analytical empathy to resolve and make sense of it. This is a crucial step in the interface response system in nipping things in the bud, so as not to allow them to distract or set you off path.
